We were approached by our clients to design a detached dwelling on land to the rear of an existing property.
Originally granted planning permission with access when purchased by the client, we later obtained planning permission for a much larger dwelling on the site which edged greenbelt land.
The approach to the design separated private bedroom spaces from living spaces and was conceived as two separate blocks interconnected at the entrance point as a vestibule.
By staggering the two blocks and by the careful arrangement of spaces in relation to orientation, a series of south facing courtyard spaces are created which are also sheltered from prevailing winds.
